Data Protection

It is an offence under the Data Protection Act from 24th October 2001 to record people in either public or private places using an unregistered and non-domestic CCTV System.

Many companies who have bought CCTV in the past do not comply with the provisions of the Data Protection Act 1998 came into force on 1st March 2000 and it may be necessary to register their CCTV installation in accordance with the Act and to comply with the requirements of the Act itself.

All new CCTV systems that are or have been installed since the 1st March 2000 must be registered under the Data Protection Act and all systems installed before this date should have registered by 24th October 2001.
